The Portland International Jetport (PWM), is seeking an ambitious Airport Deputy Director of Engineering and Facilities to oversee the work and team members of the Project Engineering, IT, and Facilities divisions of Maine's busiest Airport.

Duties & Responsibilities:

As PWM's Airport Deputy Director of Engineering and Facilities, you will be directly involved in overseeing the planning, design, maintenance, and repair of the Portland International Jetport's Airport facilities and airfield, including buildings, roadways, signage, aprons, taxiways, runways, and grounds. Your duties will be strategic, managerial, and administrative in nature, related to the planning, assessment, and implementation of capital projects, upgrades, facilities repair and maintenance needs.This is a senior management position, of significant influence as a member of the Jetport's senior leadership team, reporting directly to PWM's Airport Director.

Special Position requirements include:

  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) or Architect by the State of Maine 
  • Ability to pass all required background investigations including TSA Criminal Background clearance (TSR Part 1542) to obtain an airport security badge
  • Able to maintain a valid Class C Maine Driver's License.
  • Hold a Maine driver's license and have and maintain a good driving record.


Additional requirements include:

  • Graduation from a four-year college or university with specialization in an engineering or architectural discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience managing commercial facilities, design, and teams of construction and engineering professionals.
  • Experience specifying, installing, operating, and maintaining electrical and mechanical systems for a large industrial facility.
  • Experience in commercial construction project management. 
  • Working knowledge of computers and industry standard software with proficiency in AutoCAD, GSuite, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project, and Microsoft Word software. 
  • Minimum five years experience managing, planning, and supervising the work of design professionals, contractors, and in-house facilities and technical engineering staff.
  • Able to develop and implement inventory control and energy conservation systems.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and be self-motivated.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction and building related sciences. 
  • Knowledge of applicable building, fire, electrical and plumbing codes.
  • Advanced knowledge of HVAC, electrical and computer-based energy management systems.
  • Knowledge of airport operations, best practices and standard procedures including security, FAA compliance, and emergency response. 
  • Able to produce strong professional references from previous employers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with staff, vendors, and contractors.
  • Ability to respond proactively to departmental project needs, which at times may require a flexible work schedule.
  • Successful completion of Access Investigation in accordance with Federal Security Requirements 49 CFR Part 1542.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in large commercial or industrial facilities management
  • Prior leadership of union workers and understanding of collective bargaining agreements
  • Prior airport facilities experience 


Expected Hours/Schedule:
This is a 37.5 hour/week full time position, Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm.

Salary & Benefits:

This is a non-union salaried position, Grade D62, with a starting pay range of $99,111 - $125,578 per year, based on relevant years of experience.
