Join our team of professional park staff to care for our 67 parks, 30 playgrounds, over 20,000 street trees, 11 community gardens, dozens of flower beds, 50+ miles of trails, 39 athletic fields, and various winter recreation areas. Job Summary:

The Parks Maintainer role is responsible for the general maintenance of parks, trails, and open spaces. Work consists of all aspects of outdoor maintenance and other related physically demanding tasks. Daily tasks may include operation of grounds maintenance equipment in the care of parks and open spaces.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Outdoor maintenance, including mowing, trimming, painting, trash removal, planting, weeding, and tree planting
  • Park and trail maintenance
  • Use of grounds maintenance equipment, including mowers, tractors, and sidewalk plows, as needed.


Required Skills & Experience:

  • Thorough knowledge and experience with the functions and operating methods of a wide variety of mowing and park equipment
  • Ability to operate equipment efficiently and safely.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and as an individual.
  • Good visual acuity for driving
  • Physical strength, agility, and stamina necessary to withstand exposure to adverse climatic conditions.
  • Demonstrate great customer service and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, and members of the public.


Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Chainsaw safety certification
  • Completion of OSHA approved work zone safety training
  • Must have and maintain a good driving record


Necessary Special Requirements:

  • Hold a Maine Certified Landscape Professional certification
  • Hold a State of Maine Commercial Pesticide Applicators License, category 3A and 6B or the ability to obtain within six months of appointment date.
  • Successful candidates must undergo a pre-employment physical assessment.


Expected Hours/Schedule:

  • This is a 40 hour per week position, with an expected schedule of 6am-2pm, five days per week.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work mandatory overtime during the winter, which may include weekends and holidays.

Salary & Benefits:

This is a union position, Labor & Trades Grade 18, with a starting pay range of $24.29-$27.24 per hour, based on relevant years of experience, plus a $1/hour additional stipend
