Job Summary

This is a full time, project position in the Public Health Division, based out of our 39 Forest Ave clinic. This Registered Nurse (RN) position will serve patients across all our clinical programs which include: New Mainer Screening & Referral, Harm Reduction
Services, Immunization Program, STD Clinic, and the Portland Community Free Clinic.
The Public Health nurse is also responsible for coordinating referrals, providing
case management, completing telephone intakes and triage, and partnering with community
healthcare and social service resources. This position may also engage in education for staff and community partners on best public health practices, reporting, and outreach. A successful candidate in this role will be passionate about healthcare for vulnerable populations of all ages, flexible, resourceful, have good decision making skills and the ability to work independently and part of a team.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Applies nursing process and develops a plan of care with and for the client through assessment.
Collaborates with other agencies and the client to develop appropriate client care and may act as a case manager for clients.
Teaches in a variety of settings on health care, disease prevention and control, and public health nursing.
Orients staff, volunteers, health professionals and students to public health in a busy clinical setting.
Collects data and information relevant to best public health practices.
Participates in outreach activities, offering nursing care at shelters and other community sites, including home visits as needed.

Required Skills & Experience:

Possession of licensure as a professional registered nurse in the State of Maine.
Must possess a valid State of Maine Class C driver's license.
Knowledge of current nursing practices and principles; public health programs, issues and laws.
Ability to clearly communicate the needs of clients and advocate appropriately for needed services.
Ability to develop plans responsive to the individual client needs and capabilities.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public health staff, other professionals and non-professionals concerned with public health.
Skilled in physical assessment, triage and crisis intervention.

Preferred Qualifications:

Graduation from an approved accredited four (4) year program.
One year of experience in professional nursing in a Community/Public Health setting, or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
Excellent organizational, clinical, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Expected Hours/Schedule:

This full-time, project position is 37.5 hours per week, with a flexible work schedule that may include evening hours until 8pm. We encourage all interested candidates to apply as alternative schedules may be explored.

Salary & Benefits:

This is a union position, CEBA - Grade 16M, starting salary range: $36.90/hour - $39.14/hour.
