The Portland Parks, Recreation, and Facilities Department is comprised of 160 full-time and over 250 seasonal staff dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in Portland, Maine. They achieve this by operating cultural venues, running community programs (including Before and After School, Swim Lessons, and Senior Adult programs), and maintaining public buildings, waterfront infrastructure, 70 parks, 40+ miles of trails, 13 cemeteries, and 30 playgrounds. Their diverse team, including Park Maintainers, Lifeguards, Event Managers, Horticulturalists, and many others, works collaboratively to provide spaces and opportunities for social connection, recreation, and community development.

Job Summary:

The City of Portland's Parks, Recreation & Facilities Department is seeking customer focused-individuals to join our team as Pool Guest Service Attendants at the new Rising Eddy Community Pool! This vital position is responsible for creating a welcoming and safe environment for all patrons from the moment they enter the facility. Pool Guest Service Attendants serve as the initial point of contact, greeting all patrons with a professional and friendly demeanor. This position checks in patrons by scanning and selling passes, answers questions, proactively monitors the facility for safety, and provides strict but courteous enforcement of all pool rules and regulations. May serve as a slide monitor and relay safe usage information and rules to patrons. Flexible work hours to include early mornings, afternoons, nights, weekends and holidays. A basic knowledge of water safety is required. Excellent organizational, communication and customer service skills are also required. Cash handling experience preferred. Ability to attain American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED certification required; Basic Water Rescue preferred. Experience working with people of diverse ages and backgrounds is preferred. Offers of employment are contingent upon completion of a satisfactory criminal background check.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Collects admission and concession fees and accurately provides change using a point of sale (POS) system.
Ensures all money is accounted for and secure. Immediately reports discrepancies to the Aquatics Supervisor, Aquatics Leader or Manager on Duty.
Checks-in patrons at the front desk and closely monitors facility access and patron safety.
Resolves minor issues or concerns with patience and efficiency.
Monitors the slides for safety and safe clearance; relays safe usage information and rules to patrons.
Provides strict but courteous enforcement of pool rules and regulations.
Completes daily opening, operation and closing procedures, and all necessary documentation.
Assists Lifeguards as directed during emergency situations.
Assists with cleaning and other maintenance duties as required.
Performs other duties as required

Required Skills & Experience:

15 years or older. 15 year olds are required to provide a work permit.
Previous cash handling experience preferred.
Ability to provide exceptional service to all patrons and colleagues in the performance of duties.
Ability to multitask and take initiative.
Demonstrate excellent and respectful communication skills with patrons, colleagues and supervisors.
Exercise good judgment in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Ability to stay calm during emergency situations.
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions including heat, cold and rain.
A basic knowledge of water safety is required.
Experience working with people of diverse ages and backgrounds is preferred.
Ability to attain American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED. Basic Water Rescue preferred.

Expected Hours/Schedule:

Seasonal position. Flexible work hours to include early mornings, afternoons, nights, weekends, and holidays. Ability to work 20+ hours per week preferred.
Preference will be given to applicants available for the entirety of the summer season.

Seasonal Position - $19 per hour
