City of Portland - Water Resources Utility Coordinator

Public Works Department

Up to a $2,000 Sign on Bonus available to an external candidate.

The Department of Public Works is seeking a talented team member to work within the Water Resources Division to perform advanced technical and supervisory level work related to the operations of the City's sewer and storm water systems. This will include pump stations, CSO tanks, over 4 million feet of pipe, street sweeping and catch basin cleaning. Work involves oversight of skilled maintenance and operation technicians and supervisors and has a high level of interdepartmental and division cross communication to keep large scale operation programs running successfully.

Requirements:

Graduation from a high school plus advanced education and experience that is related to the construction and/or operation of sewage systems; or an equivalent combination of training or experience.
Considerable knowledge of municipal public works operations, stormwater infrastructure, and combined sewer overflows.
Good communication skills, both written and oral.
Knowledge of safety requirements for working in permit required confined spaces.
Working knowledge of sewer and storm water management compliance programs, DEP regulations concerning and reporting requirements.
Working knowledge of National Electric Code, building construction techniques relating to pumping station construction and sanitary sewer and storm drain construction techniques.
Ability to understand and interpret construction plans and specifications.
Must have good customer service relation skills to deal with public requests and complaints and must have ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, contractors, regulatory agencies and the general public.
Must have personal computer skills including Google Workspace, must have the ability to learn and use the City GIS software (ESRI ArcGIS) as well as the Departments asset management software Cityworks and SCADA logic.

Necessary Special Requirements:

Possess or be willing to obtain within one year a Grade IV New England Water Environmental Association Collection Systems Operator Certification.
Must possess a valid Maine Class C Driver's license and must have and maintain a good driving record.

Salary & Benefits:

This is a union position, Protech (Grade 9) – Starting salary range: $34.98/hr. to $44.31/hr., based on relevant years of experience.
