Job Summary:

The work of the Certified Nursing Assistant involves para-professional nursing care and physical assistance and support to residents and patients in a nursing facility which provides long-term care to older adults with moderate to severe functional impairments. Employees in this classification also perform all necessary clerical duties of nursing units under the supervision of a licensed nurse in accordance with current Federal, State and facility standards, guidelines and regulations. All work is performed under the direction of the nursing staff. Full-time, part-time, and on-call positions may be available.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Determines care preferences from residents or their representative.
Bathes, dresses, and grooms residents
Transfers residents from bed to chair, to tub, to toilet, or in and out of car.
Repositions residents in bed.
Assists residents in ambulating.
Feeds residents who are unable to feed themselves.
Carries and serves food trays.
Makes beds; does routine cleaning as needed.
Accompanies residents to appointments outside the facility.
Responds quickly to emergency situations.
May perform receptionist duties for nursing units.
Maintains patients charts as instructed.
Completes lab requisitions.
Checks and orders supplies for the unit.

Required Skills & Experience:

Experience in a long-term care facility, high school graduate; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Must possess a valid State of Maine CNA Certificate and have completed an approved CNA training program.
Must have the ability to communicate orally and in writing.
Must possess sufficient strength to move residents who have little or no voluntary mobility.
Must be able and willing to work a schedule which meets facility needs.
Must have willingness and ability to follow facility practices and policies as they relate to work.
Must have ability and willingness to provide and promote resident dignity and advocate for resident rights.
Must have a willingness to play an active and positive role as a team member.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Knowledge of Federal, State and facility standards as they apply to long-term care.
Ability to record medical and administrative information in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Ability to deal tactfully with coworkers, residents, family members, visitors, physicians and the general public.

Up-to-date immunization records are required for all Barron Center staff
An annual flu vaccine is required
A pre-employment physical is required

Salary & Benefits:

This is a union position, CEBA, Grade 5M, Starting salary range: $21.42 - $25.58 per hour, plus any applicable shift differentials.
A sign-on bonus of $2500 is available for qualified external hires.

Potential schedules for all Licensed Nursing roles:

7am to 3:00pm, 3pm to 11:00pm, and 11pm to 7:00am

Weekday 2nd shift differential of $2.00 per hour
Weekday 3rd shift differential of $3.00 per hour
Weekend day shift differential of $2.00 per hour
Weekend 2nd shift differential of $3.00 per hour
Weekend 3rd shift differential of $5.00 per hour
