About the City of Portland Parks, Recreation and Facilities Department:

The Portland Parks, Recreation, and Facilities Department is comprised of 160 full-time and over 250 seasonal staff dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in Portland, Maine. They achieve this by operating cultural venues, running community programs (including Before and After School, Swim Lessons, and Senior Adult programs), and maintaining public buildings, waterfront infrastructure, 70 parks, 40+ miles of trails, 13 cemeteries, and 30 playgrounds. Their diverse team, including Park Maintainers, Lifeguards, Event Managers, Horticulturalists, and many others, works collaboratively to provide spaces and opportunities for social connection, recreation, and community development.

Job Summary:

Join our team of golf course starters, rangers, and utility workers ensure smooth, enjoyable, and well-maintained play. Starters manage tee times and player flow at the first tee, rangers patrol the course to monitor pace of play and enforce etiquette, and utility workers maintain the grounds, clean equipment, and manage on-course amenities.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Excellent communication skills
Patrolling the course for pace of play and safety
Welcomes guests, checks receipts/tees-off times, explains course rules, and manages the starting queue to ensure punctuality.
Cleans/stages golf carts, restocks water/ice stations, picks up trash, sets up tournament signs, and repairs minor on-course issues like ball marks.
Ability to understand and perform tasks related to working in a golf pro-shop.

Required Skills & Experience:

Previous golf course experience is preferred.
Computer experience is preference
Valid Class C driver's license with good driving record.
Ability to lift and move heavy objects for an extended period of time

Expected Hours/Schedule:

Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays.

Salary:

$16.75-$18.00/hour, plus a Free Limited Golf Membership for the 2026 Season.
