City Attorney

Under the direction of the City Administrator, this role provides legal advice, direction, and training to the Mayor, Council, Commissions, and City Staff pertaining to legal aspects of City government operations. This key leadership role serves on the City's Management Team and is an experienced local government professional with a thorough understanding of municipal government operations. This individual will be an effective communicator who demonstrates initiative and responsiveness to the elected officials, City Administration, departments, and City Staff.

Basic Function
Draft and review ordinances, resolutions, contracts, policies, procedures, and public record requests; represent the City in all facets of litigation, including the coordination of outside counsel as necessary; oversee and manage the prosecution of misdemeanors, infractions, and ordinance violations committed within City limits through the supervision and direction of the City Prosecuting Attorney and support staff; Assist with the evaluation of City-wide risk management practices; supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel.

Required Education and Experience

• A Juris Doctorate plus five years' experience in litigation, corporate, and/or government services as an attorney is required.
• Must be an active member in good standing of the Idaho State Bar.

Required Licenses and Certifications

• Valid Driver's License
• Background Check; certain criminal convictions will disqualify a person from this position
• Criminal Justice Information System Certification
