City of Porltand - Maintenance Worker III - Islands Division

Up to $2,500 Sign On Bonus Available for external candidates

The Department of Public Works is seeking a dedicated and versatile team player to join the City's Islands crew. This role is primarily based on beautiful Peaks Island, with occasional assignments on other City islands as needed. If you enjoy hands-on, diverse outdoor work and serving a unique island community, this is the perfect opportunity for you. The schedule for this position is Monday thru Friday 6:00am-2:00pm.

Requirements:

  • Thorough knowledge of the functions and operating methods of a wide variety of light and heavy construction equipment.
  • Ability to operate equipment efficiently and safely.
  • Ability to make minor repairs.
  • Good visual acuity for driving and physical strength.
  • Must possess the agility and stamina necessary to withstand exposure to adverse climatic conditions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors and members of the public.
  • Must have good customer service skills.
  • Must be able to work outside in all elements of weather.
  • Must be willing to work mandatory overtime during winter period.
  • Must undergo a pre-employment medical exam and lift assessment
  • Must have and maintain a good driving record.
  • Must possess a valid Maine Class A or B driver's license.
  • Must pass a pre-employment medical exam and fitness assessment and pass a federally mandated drug test.

Salary & Benefits:

This is a union position, Labor & Trades (Grade 18-CDL) - with a starting pay range of $27.58 to $30.54/hour. Candidates may be hired into a Maintenance Worker II position if they do not meet all requirements of a Maintenance Worker III. The Maintenance Worker II position is a union position, Labor & Trades (Grade 17-CDL), with a starting pay range of $26.92-$29.80/hour. Starting pay will be based on qualifications and years of experience. Extra $1.00 Islands Market Rate Stipend.
