Lead the Team That Keeps Portland Moving!

Are you a skilled trades professional ready to step into a leadership role? The City of Portland Department of Public Works is looking for a Working Foreperson to help maintain the heart of our city. In this vital role, you won't just be managingyou'll be in the field, leading skilled crews in construction, repair, and essential municipal operations that keep the Downtown District thriving.

Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid State of Maine Class B Motor Vehicle Operator's license and must have and maintain a good driving record.
  • Must pass federally mandated drug test and will be susceptible to random drug testing.
  • Must be willing to pick up needle & unhoused materials.
  • Must be willing to work a weekend shift to include 10 hours during the summer period and 8 hours during the winter period.
  • Performs winter operations and has ability to operate all equipment used in the Portland Downtown District to include the sidewalk trackless, Mad Vac, smaller plow units, bobcat, walk behind mowers and snow blowers.
  • Working knowledge of accident investigation and reporting.
  • Ability to supervise and direct the activities of employees and previous supervisory experience preferred, but not required.
  • In the absence of the Sr. PDD Supervisor, supervises crews in PDD and may be asked to supervise crews in Solid Waste, Streets & Sidewalks, Traffic and Water Resources.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees to effectively obtain satisfactory work output.

Salary & Benefits:

This is a union position, Supervisors, Grade 26-CDL with a starting pay range of $27.95-$33.73/hour, based on relevant years of experience.
