About the City of Portland Parks, Recreation and Facilities Department:
The Portland Parks, Recreation, and Facilities Department is comprised of 160 full-time and over 250 seasonal staff dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in Portland, Maine. They achieve this by operating cultural venues, running community programs (including Before and After School, Swim Lessons, and Senior Adult programs), and maintaining public buildings, waterfront infrastructure, 70 parks, 40+ miles of trails, 13 cemeteries, and 30 playgrounds. Their diverse team, including Park Maintainers, Lifeguards, Event Managers, Horticulturalists, and many others, works collaboratively to provide spaces and opportunities for social connection, recreation, and community development.
Job Summary:
Portland Ocean Terminal and Ocean Gateway Terminal (April – November) - The City of Portland's 2026 Cruise Ship Season is quickly approaching, and we are happy to offer seasonal port security positions to qualified and interested individuals. Well qualified candidates will be reliable, have a friendly disposition, possess great customer service skills, hold an innate desire to help others, and can pay attention to details and detect problems while multitasking. The position will require staff to stand for at least three hours at a time and work shifts a minimum of six hours long. Cruise Ships make port calls in the City of Portland from the end of April to the beginning of November, so planning and dressing for Maine's ever changing weather conditions is an invaluable talent. Applicants must possess or be able to obtain a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC). Upon hire applicants will be required to complete a facility-specific security training.Schedules are flexible and need will vary throughout the seasons based on port calls.

Preferred Skills & Experience:
Previous experience in security
Experience in conflict de-escalation or high-volume customer service.
Expected Hours/Schedule:
Various hours including nights and weekends.

Salary:
Seasonal Position - April-November - $19.00/hour
