About the Office of Elder Affairs:

Our mission is to creatively and collaboratively address issues that present hardships for Portland residents as they age.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a caring and energetic Certified Nursing Assistant to join our adult day program team. Qualified applicants will have at least two years experience working with older adults in a long term care or community setting, and experience in dementia care is preferred. Applicants with a background in recreational therapy or activity coordination are encouraged to apply!

Duties & Responsibilities:

May oversee the activities and work of volunteers.
Assist in developing, organizing, and conducting individual and group recreational activities appropriate to clients' needs, abilities, and interests.
Plan activities and transport clients on community outings.
Provide basic physical care to clients attending the Adult Day Service Programs, which may include whirlpool bathing, grooming, toileting, simple food preparation, serving meals and snacks, transferring, and ambulating with one assist.
Works as part of a team to determine an appropriate individual care plan for each client.
Maintains equipment and facilities, and obtains the supplies or materials necessary to do the work.
Performs related work as required.

Required Skills & Experience:

Current Nursing Assistant Certificate in good standing on the State of Maine Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) registry
Must have and maintain a valid State of Maine Class C driver's license with a good driving record.
Able to lift up to 50 pounds and to push wheelchairs.
Able to perform duties in a manner that is safe for both clients and employees, by following standard safety policies and procedures.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

Recreation therapy or activity coordinator certification preferred, equivalent work experience also accepted.
Knowledge and experience planning and executing safe and appropriate therapeutic activities for elderly and/or disabled adults.
Excellent communication skills.

Expected Hours/Schedule:

This is a full-time, 37.5 hour per week position. Schedule is Monday through Friday, day shift only.

Salary & Benefits:

This is a union position, CEBA (Grade 5), with a starting pay range of $22.28-24.35/hour.
